We take care of forecasts and budgets of the Scientific Areas and Research Groups including Labs, IGAP, IFPU and ILAS. More in detail, we are in charge of what follows:
- As part of the annual planning exercise, we support each Area coordinator and the directors of IGAP, IFPU and ILAS in preparing the yearly budget requests, that are usually sent to the budget office in October
- We support the management of budget assigned by SISSA to the Scientific Areas, IGAP, IFPU and ILAS and constantly monitor the availability of funds during the year
Please note that the Project Management Office (gestioneprogetti@sissa.it) is the reference for external grants.

We are in charge of:
- Accounting entry of transport documents (DCE – Doc Consegna Erogazione in Entrata) related to consumable and equipment supplies for the labs
- Reimbursement claims of the scientific areas through the petty cash (fondo economale)

DHL deliveries
If you need to make a delivery, please proceed as follows:
- Send a request both to corriere@sissa.it (Technical and Logistics Office) and budget.neuro@sissa.it (copying your PI, if you are a student or postdoc), indicating the recipient’s full address, a telephone number and the contents to be shipped, and specifying whether it is a product in dry ice or not. In the same message, please specify the funds to be used to charge the shipping cost if it exceeds 50 euros.
- The Technical and Logistics Office will let us know the shipping cost as soon as the delivery is booked on the DHL website.
- If the shipping cost exceeds 50 euros and it has to be charged on area or lab funds, the scientific secretariat will confirm the availability of these funds. Alternatively, if the cost has to be charged on a grant, the scientific secretariat will forward the request to the project management office, that will confirm the budget availability.
Please consider that deliveries can be made on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The parcel must be delivered by 10am on the day of shipment to the store (floor -1): SISSAnet > Services > Store.
The Scientific Secretariat Office supports the scientific areas with petty cash (fondo economale) reimbursement procedures and the related paperwork.
To be reimbursed for an institutional purchase made for your area, please contact us (delivery@sissa.it) providing the following details:
- Item to be purchased
- Reason
- Cost
- Funds to be used

The Scientific Secretariat Office manages the opening, update and closure of cognitive neuroscience studies on humans (delivery@sissa.it). To open and close a study:
- The first step is to contact the student performing a 150-hour collaboration, who takes care of coordinating the lab groups, and let them know what you need.
- They will contact us to manage the opening and get back to you with all the information needed.
Projects involving human participants are evaluated by the Ethics Committee.
- Submit your project using the Ethics Committee form, available under SISSA Web Services portal.
- If the experiment requires travel, open the mission in good time: the usual 10-day advance deadline is reduced to 2 days for missions to conduct experiments on volunteer subjects (see Missions FAQs and guides).
- For questions on procedures and funds, contact the Scientific Secretariat Office (SEGSCI).
The Ethics Committee and the Animal Welfare Body are described in Animal Welfare Body (OPBA).
