Industrial property titles—such as patents, trademarks, and designs—represent a competitive advantage for companies that properly manage and enhance them. The SISSA Valorization and Innovation Office has been entrusted by MIMIT (the Italian Ministry for Enterprises and Made in Italy) to prepare reports that serve two purposes: to provide start-ups and SMEs with guidance on how to better valorize their IP assets, and to help MIMIT analyze the current state of IP management in Italian companies. The goal is to inform policies and tools that can better support the national production system and strengthen collaboration between industry and public research.
SISSA offers all Italian-registered SMEs and start-ups a free diagnostic service to evaluate their industrial property portfolios. This is based on a very short questionnaire that collects key information regarding the company’s IP awareness, protection, management, and valorization strategies. The primary goal is to help companies understand and leverage the value and potential of their IP assets, in order to boost their overall competitiveness.
- Participating companies are also introduced to a wide range of free services provided by UIBM (Italian Patent and Trademark Office), including: Information and training resources
- Support with filing patent, trademark, and design applications
- Assistance with international market entry strategies
- Anti-counterfeiting technologies
- Access to financial incentives for IP protection
Following the assessment, companies receive a dedicated report summarizing their IP profile and offering tailored suggestions for enhancement. All collected information is handled in full compliance with privacy regulations and is transmitted to MIMIT only in aggregate, anonymized form.
