Protecting intellectual property

From ideas to market

The Valorization and Innovation Office supports SISSA researchers and PhD students in protecting, managing, and valorizing their inventions and research results through Intellectual Property (IP) tools such as patents, copyrights, and know-how. The main goal is to help scientists and researchers transform scientific ideas into protected innovations with real market potential.

Before patenting, it’s essential to assess what already exists in your field. The Valorization Office, in collaboration with Stefania Cantagalli (SISSA Library), offers a free Prior Art Search service to help you:

  • Save time and resources
  • Avoid duplications
  • Strengthen the novelty and strategy of your application

If you have an idea, a technology under development, or a finished product, the Valorization Office can support you with:

  • General guidance on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)
  • Evaluation of research results to determine patentability and commercial potential
  • Support in preparing and submitting invention disclosures
  • Assistance with filing patent applications
  • Funding and coordination of the patenting process
  • Support in commercializing inventions and managing license agreements

All evaluations and filings are free of charge if the invention shows sufficient potential.
