The SISSA Library holds a rich and highly specialized collection that supports advanced research in mathematics, physics, and neuroscience. It provides both physical and digital access to core scientific materials essential for the School’s research community. The collections include: 

  • Over 20,000 monographs, including foundational texts and current publications
  • A complete archive of all SISSA theses (PhD and Master’s)
  • 20,000 bound volumes of scientific journals
  • Access to more than 6,000 online journals and major academic databases
  • An open-access institutional repository for SISSA-authored publications

All materials are selected and updated to reflect the evolving needs of researchers and students, ensuring that the Library remains a central resource in the pursuit of knowledge.

The SISSA Library offers a comprehensive suite of digital tools to support research, publication, and data management. These services are accessible through the library website and are designed to simplify access to information, enhance productivity, and promote open science. Key tools and platforms include: 

  • IRIS: SISSA’s institutional repository for theses and scientific publications
  • Discovery Service: an integrated search tool to explore books, journals, and external databases
  • Bibliographic databases: access to Web of Science, Scopus, MathSciNet, zbMATH, INSPIRE, arXiv, PubMed, and more
  • E-journals and digital catalog: to browse and access scientific literature from anywhere
  • Open Data repository: with APIs for publishing and sharing research datasets
  • Read & Publish agreements: enabling SISSA authors to publish open access in major scientific journals at no additional cost

The Library is open throughout the week to support study, research, and consultation needs. Staff are available during opening hours to assist with accessing resources, using digital tools, or locating materials. 

Opening hours: 

  • Monday to Thursday: 9:00 AM – 7:00 PM 
  • Friday: 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM 
  • Closed on Saturday, Sunday, and public holidays
